Damage Modifier (2025)

I created this modifier at Barrel Roll Games last year right after we settled on a style for our third game project. I usually don’t do technical art in Blender and damage modifiers had already been created by others, but when I followed the tutorials, I felt that the modifier was lacking a fundamental thing: adequate shading. Implementing this feature – and realising that Geometry Nodes aren’t too difficult to work with – made me think how it can be expanded even more.

On top of creating edge damage, this modifier is also capable of creating optional surface damage and you can also use a collection of objects which intersect with your main object to create damage exactly where you want it. Works in Blender 4.5 LTS, but haven’t tested it in Blender 5.0 and above.
